GLAMOUR

A fragmented woman levitating in space, this collage combines two separate fashion advertisements. Found images show how women’s bodies are objectified and marketed for capitalist gains and offer insight into evolving beauty ideals that are reflected through the media. The nearly nude, disembodied woman highlights how women’s bodies are displayed as sexualised props. The exploitative visual representation of women in media is often accompanied by sexually-suggestive or demeaning language which simultaneously praises and shames women for the expression of their own bodies or sexuality. The image addresses possession and gazes through re-appropriation.
